Derrick fought the madness that threatened to take control. Now was not the time. It would not bring back Geoff, it could not undo what had been done. It would only cost them more. He concentrated on Davy and the others.
He knew that Brighton and his friend Spiral believed that Geoff was as good as dead. It was possible that they were wrong, but he could feel the waves of misery radiating off of Kenny. That he could not ignore. Kenny knew.
And so he sat, on the edge of madness, not daring to let himself fall. For the living– he had to go on for the living.
He felt a growl growing in his throat as Brighton and his men studied Joey for a very long time. He did not like where any of this was leading.
"Take it easy," he heard Davy urge softly. "Stay loose... stay calm."
Derrick nodded, not trusting himself to say more.
He would remain in control... for now.
